Dr. Berg talks about bad breath on the ketogenic diet. When the body releases ketones, you could have a higher amount of acetones being released from the body. This could smell like nail varnish remover. In this case consume more vegetables. If you are consuming more protein, you would get a spike in ammonia, which could smell a bit like urine, in which case reduce your protein. If you have an odor that is like sulfur (eggs), then you need to take something called EM – effective microbes:

Hi guys, in this video we are going to talk about bad breath on a ketogenic diet. Typically when you are burning ketones versus glucose. Ketones tend to give kind of fruity odor, but if you are releasing more acetone, it could actually almost resemble nail varnish remover it is a little bit on the toxic side. If you are consuming excess protein on a ketogenic diet which a lot of people do, you are going to get more ammonia which is kind of an old urine, comes from the skin, underneath your armpit, in your breath and can be pretty disgusting. And then there is another form that is kind of an overgrowth of a certain bacteria which is giving off a sulfur smell which is kind of like eggs, but this is not typically associated with ketogenic diet but it can be aggravated by it simply because the liver is congested. What to do to get rid if you have this fruity odor or nail varnish remover, is to increase your vegetables content 7 to 10 cups to start flushing the stuff out so this is no longer a waste product. Also over time you are going to be more efficient in burning these ketones so a lot less of it is going to come out of your breath and even the urine. For the excess protein, cut down your protein. If you are eating 8 to 10 ounces, go down to 5 or even 3 ounces of protein till you no longer smell that ammonia.
