In this video, we’re going to talk about the causes of acid reflux, heartburn, and GERD.
PPI, Tums, and H2 receptor blockers are medications used to treat acid reflux, heartburn, and GERD. But, they each come with a lot of side effects. One common side effect that all of these medications have is called Achlorhydria. Achlorhydria is a condition where you don’t have the acid in your stomach anymore. These medications are also actually one of the GERD, acid reflux, and heartburn causes.
There seems to be a relationship between stomach acid and the stomach valve. If the stomach acid is the correct pH, that valve will stay nice and tight. But, with these issues, it’s not that you have too much acid, you actually need more acid.
Achlorhydria causes:
1. H. Pylori (this microbe depletes stomach acids)
2. Zinc deficiency
3. Potassium deficiency
4. Sodium deficiency
5. Chloride deficiency
6. Iodine deficiency
7. Vitamin B3 deficiency
8. Hypothyroid conditions
9. Anti-acids
Side effects of achlorhydria:
• GERD
• Acid reflux
• Heartburn
• Low B12
• Constipation
• Low magnesium
• Low zinc
Natural remedies for heartburn, GERD, and acid reflux:
• Apple cider vinegar
• Betaine hydrochloride
• Adding in nutrients
