In this video, I explain why the ketogenic diet, especially combined with intermittent fasting, will improve your cognitive function more than smart pills, also known as nootropics.

Nootropics are also called cognitive enhancers. They help your memory, creativity, and to feel more awake. They work as a central nervous system stimulant.

But here’s the problem I have with this compound. As soon as you start taking it, you feel great. If you stop taking it, it brings you down. Then you have to take it again in order to feel good. And over time you need more and more of it to create the same effect. When you don’t take it, your lows just get lower.

You actually become dependent on this pill, without getting to the cause of the problem.

I have no problem recommending vitamins from food or herbs, along with amino acids and minerals. But because nootropics are chemical compounds that can create dependency, I don’t recommend them.

If you have cognitive problems, or memory problems, take vitamin B1, B6, and B12. Nutritional yeast is the best source. Also make sure you get enough DHA, which is an omega 3 fatty acid that’s good for your brain. Good sources are cod liver oil and salmon oil. Make sure they’re wild caught.

Get more sleep! You’ll be surprised how some extra sleep will enhance your energy and cognitive function.

Intermittent fasting is hands down the most powerful thing you can do to improve your cognitive function. It’s a survival mechanism; when you don’t eat, certain genes kick in that cause you to become smarter and more focused, thus better able to find food. You actually start growing more brain cells! It supports your hippocampus, which is tightly linked with memory.

Eating a low carb diet, like healthy keto, will improve insulin resistance, which causes brain fog and is linked to mood disorders.

Lastly, be sure to exercise, especially aerobic exercise such as long walks, which will help more than high intensity exercise.

Ditch the smart pills in favor of the ketogenic diet !
